New York, NY – Yesterday, NY1 Spectrum’s 30-minute documentary on the Specialized High School process featured Khan’s Tutorial’s SHSAT Program. The piece, entitled “A Select Few” details how test preparation has become an essential step for students who want to attend schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. KT CEO & President, Dr. Ivan Khan spoke about the growth and impact of test preparation in the South Asian NYC community. For many low-income new immigrant families, the SHSAT has been a pathway out of poverty.

Manhattan, NY – Last week, several community based organizations gathered for two rallies to show support for the SHSAT. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s recently announced plan proposes to change the current admissions criterion to NYC’s Specialized High Schools. This plan would replace the SHSAT with a new method that would admit students based on their class rank at their middle school as well as their statewide standardized tests scores.
