New York, NY – Yesterday, NY1 Spectrum’s 30-minute documentary on the Specialized High School process featured Khan’s Tutorial’s SHSAT Program. The piece, entitled “A Select Few” details how test preparation has become an essential step for students who want to attend schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. KT CEO & President, Dr. Ivan Khan spoke about the growth and impact of test preparation in the South Asian NYC community. For many low-income new immigrant families, the SHSAT has been a pathway out of poverty.
Also featured in the piece was KT student Aniqua Chowdhury and her family. Aniqua and her parents detailed her journey from studying at Khan’s Tutorial’s SHSAT program to eventually gaining acceptance to her top choice, Stuyvesant High School. The documentary also mentions that everyone who prepared in Aniqua’s class at Khan’s Tutorial gained acceptance to a Specialized High School as well.
