Arab American Family Support Center

The Arab-American Family Support Center, a nonprofit organization, hosted the Kensington Wellness Arts Program at Khan’s Tutorial Brooklyn on Dahill Road. They provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, multigenerational social services to immigrants and refugees.

The program focused on introducing art as a wellness tool, pulling from mindfulness and grounding activities and incorporating them into art and storytelling. Participants reported that they felt less stress after completing the four-month program. Students valued the community support and open environment provided in Khan’s Tutorial space. Lastly, participants reported that the skills they learned helped them cope with the stressors they experienced.

“Khan’s Tutorial provided a central location for community members of all ages to come and attend the arts program classes, ranging from youth to elders. The Arab-American Family Support Center’s presence in Kensington through Khan’s Tutorial allowed us to become a part of the community and create a space for community members seeking support. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support that Khan’s provided to us!” – Hannah McIntire, Ed.M. | Chief Operating Officer, Arab American Family Support Center
