Khan’s Tutorial Addresses Changes to the SHSAT Through Staff Training and Meetings with Parents and Students

New York, NY – Last month the Department of Education announced several new changes made to the SHSAT – the entrance exam for Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech and the new Specialized High Schools. In response to these changes, Khan’s Tutorial has held several training sessions with SHSAT Instructors, Managers, and Directors in order to keep families and students informed.  Curriculum managers have been working around the clock to update diagnostic test material as well as class work and homework with the new sections. Additionally, upcoming parent-teacher conferences will be a great chance for families to voice their concerns, ask questions, and learn more about the changes.

New York State Senator Jesse Hamilton Hosts Meeting with Khan’s Tutorial Brooklyn – Discusses SHSAT Changes and Plans to Expand Khan’s Tutorial’s Renowned SHSAT Program

Brooklyn, NY – This past weekend, NYS Senator Jesse Hamilton visited Khan’s Tutorial Brooklyn to meet with KT President & CEO Dr. Ivan Khan and speak to recipients of the Dr. Mansur Khan SHSAT Opportunity Scholarship. A native New Yorker, Senator Jesse Hamilton was born and raised in South Bronx. The father of two children graduated from Ithaca College, received his M.B.A. from Long Island University in 1990 and his J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1994. Currently he serves on the influential Independent Democratic Committee as well as the Education Committee.

Queens, NY – Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal reached out to Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO & President of Khan’s Tutorial about the new changes made to the SHSAT, the entrance exam for Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, & Brooklyn Tech and the new Specialized High Schools. While it was recently announced that the scrambled paragraph and logical reasoning sections would be omitted from the exam, the Department of Education has made several additional changes:

Earlier this week Khan’s Tutorial hosted it Annual StaffHoliday Party. Every year Mrs. Khan, Dr. Ivan Khan, and the Senior Team celebrate the incredible hard work and sacrifices that each and every Instructor, Manager, and Director make for their students. This year, teammates from each of Khan’s 10 centers gathered at Gulshan Terrace for the event. In addition to celebrating another successful year Khan’s Tutorial recognized the dedication of their teammates by awarding talented Instructors from every department and center.

Khan’s Tutorial celebrates 621 Perfect Scoring Common Core students and High Scoring Regents & SAT students at the Khan’s Tutorial Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony

New York, NY – On Saturday, November 12, Khan’s Tutorial (KT) hosted its third Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony at the Milton G. Bassin Performing Arts Center at York College. Khan’s celebrated students in their Common Core Program who received single 4s and double 4s on their ELA and Math Common Core Citywide/Statewide Exams. Khan’s also celebrated students in their High School Achievement Program who achieved exceptional scores on their SAT & Regents Exams.

New York, New York – Over the weekend, Khan’s Tutorial Chairperson Mrs. Nayeema Khan was presented with a Proclamation from the House of Representatives for Khan’s Tutorial’s work with New York City’s Bangladeshi youth.  Congressman Joseph Crowley recognized Mrs. Khan’s lasting dedication to education and wrote a letter commending KT’s high scoring Common Core, Regents, and SAT students who are being awarded next month at KT’s Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony at York College.

Khan’s Tutorial pushes for Halal & Kosher meal options at NYC public schools with Muslim & Jewish community leaders and elected officials at City Hall

September 6, 2016 -This week Khan’s Tutorial senior leaders and students rallied at the steps of City Hall for a bill requiring more inclusive food options for students in the NYC public school system. The press conference was lead by SAFEST (South Asian Fund for Education, Scholarship, & Training) founder, Mazeda Uddin. Supporters of the bill argue that public school students who are observant Muslims or Jews are often times faced with decision of violating their religious dietary restrictions or going hungry for the entire school day. Additionally, low income students who rely on free lunches are forced to leave school to purchase halal or kosher food. Public Advocate Letitia James expressed her support for the inclusive bill and invited KT students Tahseen Chowdhury, Syed Islam, and Sudat Khan to share their experiences as observant Muslim public school students.
