Today Khan’s Tutorial is featured on the front page of NBC News – Asian America. The news report titled “Growing Tutoring Market Highlights Possible Gaps in Public Education” examines the challenges faced by low-income communities in education, the lack of resources within the public school system, and the rising demand for tutoring services across the country.

Khan’s Tutorial Annual SHSAT Awards Ceremony Celebrates 336 Students

On April 30th, 2016, Khan’s Tutorial (KT) hosted its Annual SHSAT Awards Ceremony for their students who gained acceptance to NYC’s Specialized High Schools. Just weeks ago, the results of the SHSAT were released across NYC. This week, accepted students and their families gathered to celebrate a year of hard work and the resulting success at KT’s largest event of the year.

Khan’s Tutorial Congratulates 335 Students Who Have Gained Admission to NYC’s Specialized High Schools

New York, NY – March 5, 2016 – Earlier this month marked the release of the results of the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT), the sole determinant of admission into New York City’s prestigious Specialized High Schools including Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School, and the new Specialized High Schools. The top three Specialized High Schools offer acceptances to a total of about 3,000 students per year out of 30,000 students who take the challenging exam. The SHSAT program at Khan’s Tutorial (KT) is conducted year round with students starting classes 8-12 months before their exam. Over the last 21 years, KT has helped over 2,214 students gain admission to the Specialized High Schools.

Manhattan, NY – February 29, 2016 – Earlier this week, Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO of Khan’s Tutorial and Founder of Khan Foundation spoke at the 3rd Annual Power of Collaboration Summit by Impact Leadership 21 held at the United Nations Headquarters. The summit lead by CEO & Co-Founder, Janet Salazar, aims to use a global platform to provide solutions to creating inclusive economies. CEOs, Elected officials, and educators from all over the world gathered at the United Nations to discuss issues regarding diverse and sustainable leadership at top levels and how to accelerate women in these leadership positions. Among presenters were Khan’s Tutorial and Khan Foundation.

Khan’s Tutorial & Khan Foundation are invited to speak at the United Nations by Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite for the First International Day of Women & Girls in Science

Manhattan, NY – February 12, 2016 – Earlier this week, Khan’s Tutorial was invited by her royal highness Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashimite, Executive Director and Founder of the Royal Academy of Science International Trust, to the United Nations Headquarters to speak and to celebrate the first International Day of Women & Girls in Science. Leaders and educators from all over the world gathered at the United Nations Headquarters to discuss gender barriers in pursuing the sciences and solutions to educational access for young women. Among presenters were Khan’s Tutorial and Khan Foundation.

Khan’s Tutorial Celebrates 325 Students for Outstanding Common Core State Exam Scores & Exceptional SAT and Regent Success

On Saturday, November 14th, Khan’s Tutorial (KT) hosted its second Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony. KT celebrated students in the third through eighth grades who received 4s and double 4 scores on their ELA and Math Citywide Exams this past year. A score of 4 means that these students met and excelled beyond the standards set for elementary and junior high school students.  This puts them amongst the top 9% of all NYS students who scored a 4 on their 2015 ELA exam and the top 16% of students who scored a 4 on their 2015 Math exam. In addition, we recognized the accomplishments of our high school students who scored highly on their Regents, SATs, and ACTs.

Khan’s Tutorial SHSAT Program included in Curtis Chin’s SHSAT Documentary Entitled “Tested”

On Monday, September 21, 2015, Filmmaker Curtis Chin unveiled his documentary, Tested, during a special preview screening at the Time Warner Screening Room. The documentary examines the controversy surrounding the SHSAT and follows a group racially and socio-economically diverse 8th graders as they compete for admission to one of the Specialized High Schools. Additionally, Curtis visited Khan’s Tutorial Jackson Heights to find out more about our SHSAT Program and our dedicated students. The documentary features conversations with Khan’s Tutorial CEO Dr. Ivan Khan and takes a glimpse into the lives of our hardworking students and their journey to the Specialized High Schools.

BBC features Khan’s Tutorial SHSAT Program on BBC News

Jackson Heights, NY – On Tuesday, August 18, Video Journalist, Anna Bressanin, of BBC visited Khan’s Tutorial for a feature on Khan’s SHSAT program for her piece on Specialized High School admissions. BBC leaders in Washington DC requested to find out more about our program which has received much coverage nationally over the past 5 years. Ms. Bressanin visited our Jackson Heights center to speak with Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO, Mrs. Nayeema Khan, Chairperson, and students from our SHSAT Bootcamp and Workshop classes. Of the 4 students interviewed, 2 were featured in the segment: SM Saad and Shayam.

WNYC Visits Khan’s Tutorial for Feature on SHSAT

Late last month Beth Fertig, contributing education editor for WNYC on air and online at SchoolBook.org, visited Khan’s Tutorial Jackson Heights to learn more about our SHSAT program and speak to some of our dedicated students. Ms.Fertig, a frequent contributor to NPR, currently reports on the New York City public school system. Her piece about the popularity of test prep in immigrant communities features a conversation with Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO about Bangladeshi families and the importance of the NYC Bangladeshi Media.

Khan Foundation Holds Orientation for College Access Program

Khan Foundation Jackson Heights, New York – August 4, 2015 This past weekend Khan Foundation a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization held its orientation for this year’s College Access Program (CAP) Scholars. The free program is in its second year of operation with its main purpose being to help NYC students from low-income, underrepresented communities, find, apply to, and gain admission to colleges with significant financial aid and scholarships.
