New York, NY – On Monday, September 21, 2015, Filmmaker Curtis Chin unveiled his documentary, Tested, during a special preview screening at the Time Warner Screening Room. The documentary examines the controversy surrounding the SHSAT and follows a group racially and socio-economically diverse 8th graders as they compete for admission to one of the Specialized High Schools. Tested includes the voices of education experts as it explores access to a high-quality public education, affirmative action, and the model-minority myth. Additionally, Curtis visited Khan’s Tutorial Jackson Heights to find out more about our SHSAT Program and our dedicated students. The documentary features conversations with Khan’s Tutorial CEO Dr. Ivan Khan and takes a glimpse into the lives of our hardworking students and their journey to the Specialized High Schools. Also included in the documentary, is Khan’s Tutorial’s experience working with the NYC immigrant community.
The special preview screening was attended by Senior KT Leaders, members of Coalition.Edu, and other leaders in education. There was also a short Q&A with the staff and families featured in the documentary.
Mr. Chin will be showing “sneak peek” screenings at 30 colleges and high schools in the U.S. and United Kingdom this fall.
