BBC features Khan’s Tutorial SHSAT Program on BBC News

Khan's Tutorial Student being interviewed.

Jackson Heights, NY – On Tuesday, August 18, Video Journalist, Anna Bressanin, of BBC visited Khan’s Tutorial for a feature on Khan’s SHSAT program for her piece on Specialized High School admissions. BBC leaders in Washington DC requested to find out more about our program which has received much coverage nationally over the past 5 years. Ms. Bressanin visited our Jackson Heights center to speak with Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO, Mrs. Nayeema Khan, Chairperson, and students from our SHSAT Bootcamp and Workshop classes. Of the 4 students interviewed, 2 were featured in the segment: SM Saad and Shayam.

“I came to this country as an immigrant. I had to learn English and it was more difficult than math. Math I can easily learn, like formulas and other things but reading – it’s just so unpredictable,” said SM Saad, who has been a Khan’s students for 4 years. When asked about the exam he said, “They’re helping me so much here. I’m not that nervous.” Shayam, a student who has been with Khan’s for 3 years said, “My parents, they come from Bangladesh. They never had the opportunity so they want to have their education sort of through me.”

“The families who started with us and continued all the way through really enjoy the benefits when they’re kids get accepted to the top schools. At KT we always want the students and the mothers especially to be reassured that they’re getting the most competitive prep in all of NYC evidenced by BBC visiting us,” said Mrs. Nayeema Khan.

The feature story aired worldwide earlier this week and is currently on BBC.com.

“In all of our 21 years as a company, we never imagined in our wildest dreams to be featured by BBC! Our SHSAT team at Khan’s couldn’t have reached this point without the hard work of Dr. Mansur Khan & Mrs. Nayeema Khan. Though we are missing Dr. Khan greatly during this momentous occasion for us, we know that the prayers from the NYC community for him has benefited all Khan’s students today and in the future, inshAllah! This feature not only reflects well on Khan’s Tutorial, but the entire NYC Bangladeshi community, press & media as well.”
