New York, New York – Over the weekend, Khan’s Tutorial Chairperson Mrs. Nayeema Khan was presented with a Proclamation from the House of Representatives for Khan’s Tutorial’s work with New York City’s Bangladeshi youth. Congressman Joseph Crowley recognized Mrs. Khan’s lasting dedication to education and wrote a letter commending KT’s high scoring Common Core, Regents, and SAT students who are being awarded next month at KT’s Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony at York College.
“I want to acknowledge the hard work and unwavering dedication of the students to their academics. These exceptional young people are well on their way to a promising future as leaders and innovators. I wish the very best to this group of remarkable students, as well as the tutors who assisted them in attaining outstanding results,” – Congressman Joseph Crowley.
Congressman Crowley presented a Proclamation detailing Mrs. Khan’s role in the community and work at Khan’s Tutorial.
“Since its inception over two decades ago, Khan’s Tutorial has been a success in Jackson Heights and beyond. Under Mrs. Khan’s guidance, KT has grown in size and influence, while opening many other tutoring centers across Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. All of those who know Mrs. Khan attest to the power of the work she has done and continues to do, both within the framework of KT and beyond it. Whether she’s simply spending time with her granddaughter Arianna or working with students at Khan’s Tutorial, Nayeema Khan’s characteristic charm and work ethic have changed the lives of many for the better,” – Congressman Joseph Crowley.
In 2016, Khan’s Tutorial had 537 students scored perfect 4/4s on their Common Core exams – 246 students score a single 4 and 291 students score double 4s. A score of 4/4 means that these students met and excelled beyond the standards set for elementary and junior high school students. This puts KT students amongst the top 11.8% of all NYS students who scored a 4 on their 2016 ELA exam and the top 17.8% of students who scored a 4 on their 2016 Math exam. In terms of students in KT’s High School Achievement Program, 84 students had competitive scores on their SAT or Regents exam.
With 10 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income, new immigrant neighborhoods. Over 2,217 students have gained admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools through Khan’s Tutorial since its inception in 1994.
