May 12, 2015 – This week Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO of Khan’s Tutorial, Mohammad Hossain, Director of Operations, and Paulina Baltazar, Director of Marketing Communications attended the White house Initiative Summit on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in Washington, DC. The AAPI initiative serves to connect diverse communities around important issues regarding health, education, civil rights, immigration, as well as economic and community development.
During the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month of May, members of the AAPI White House Initiative congregated to celebrate and honor the perseverance and contributions of Asian immigrants in the US.
Mark Mitsui, Deputy Director of the Department of Education, said, “It is evident that Asian immigrants face a lot challenges adjusting to life in America, but New York City offers many programs to help Asian American students. Because of this, Asian American students of New York City are performing better with the many resources available to them, more so that than other states”.
Khan’s Tutorial had the honor of attending this historical event as it was the first AAPI Initiative Summit. Speakers of the event highlighted important issues such as underlying connotations associated with AAPIs. In addition to insightful discussions, panels, and presentations,some notable speakers include:

● Parag Mehta, Chief of Staff to Surgeon General Vivek Murthy
● Kiran Ahuja, Executive Director of the White House APPI.
“ The AAPI community is the fastest growing minority group in the US. The term, Asian American is too broad to categorize people of AAPI descent. It’s important that we focus on distinguishing the heritages of people of AAPI descent and addressing each specific groups problems as their own. This is an American issue,” said Paulina Baltazar, Director of Marketing and Communications at KT.
