Manhattan NY – March 24, 2017, Today Mrs. Nayeema Khan, Chairperson of Khan’s Tutorial was awarded at the United Nations for her leadership and work at Khan’s Tutorial. Dr. Monica Sanchez, Founder of the Caricom Foundation presented Mrs. Khan with the Danny Glover Power of Dreams 2017 award with New York State Senator James Sander Jr. This year’s awards focused on honoring those involved with youth empowerment. Currently, under Mrs. Khan’s leadership, Khan’s Tutorial serves over 3,500 families weekly, mostly from low-income and new immigrant backgrounds. Furthermore, Khan’s Tutorial has grown to be one of NYC’s largest employers of youth with a team of over 400.
In addition to recognizing Khan’s Tutorial’s Chairperson, two outstanding students were recognized for their academic achievements. Kamrul Hossain, a star student in Khan’s Tutorial’s High School Achievement Program recently received early decision acceptance to Columbia University with a full Scholarship. Khan’s Tutorial Student Farah Alam, current sophomore, was recognized for her acceptance to Stuyvesant High School.

It was with great honor and humility that our Chairperson received this recognition for her work at Khan’s providing access to education in our community,” said Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO and President of Khan’s Tutorial.
With 10 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income, new immigrant neighborhoods. Over 2,606 students have gained admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools through Khan’s Tutorial since its inception in 1994.
