New York, New York – Last weekend, Khan’s Tutorial held its monthly SHSAT Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs) throughout all eleven locations. During these conferences, Directors in their respective branches offer parents and students advice, tips, and updates for the upcoming SHSAT exam in October 2018.
SHSAT Parent Teacher Conferences generally review students’ results from the last KT diagnostic. Khan’s Tutorial also uses this time to make sure parents are fully aware of what’s going to be on the exam and how they can navigate the high school admissions process. This includes going to all high school open houses and keeping up with screened high school admissions applications. Khan’s Tutorial offers a 2018 timeline to provide students with structure in their daily lives leading up to the SHSAT exam.
Monthly PTCs are held to encourage parent involvement as it has been statistically proven to be a strong contributing factor to student success. Khan’s Tutorial keeps parents involved by leading an open discussion on exam specifics and what preparation for SHSAT exam entails. In addition, Khan’s Tutorial Directors discuss what parents can do to facilitate an improvement in student study habits and what Directors can do to support families. Khan’s Tutorial also offers tips on how to do well on the actual exam, these tips include making sure to complete every book on the SHSAT book list, taking advantage of the SHSAT workshop classes, and staying after class to talk to SHSAT instructors.
“It was very nice to see so many parents show up for their children during the most important PTC of the year. At Khan’s Tutorial, we stress parent involvement because we see the impact it makes on the results. The parents that are the most dedicated and follow up with their child’s progress throughout the full year program have provided their children with the tools at home to succeed on their exam. Parent involvement is key to student success,” said Mohammad Hossain, Vice President of Khan’s Tutorial.
“To all families and students – the most important thing to remember from PTCs is that the 50 days left until the exam is a critical time. You can improve dramatically if you follow Khan’s Tutorial’s study schedule and follow ALL the tips from our SHSAT Instructors,” said Yusuf Khan, SHSAT Program Manager.
With 11 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Sunnyside, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income, new immigrant neighborhoods.
