New York, NY – April 2, 2019 – This weekend, Khan’s Tutorial’s programs were covered in two separate articles by The Wall Street Journal.
The first piece describes the Dr. Mansur Khan SHSAT Opportunity Scholarship which provides free tutoring for students from low-income, underrepresented backgrounds. The late Dr. Mansur Khan was an advocate accessible education for all and wanted to see the same success the Bangladeshi community experienced for all New Yorkers. Today, Dr. Ivan Khan and the Senior Team of Khan’s Tutorial have worked to increase diversity at the Specialized High Schools and expand Gifted & Talented and honors programs from an early age. This year Khan’s Tutorial has helped 35 underrepresented students gain acceptance to the Specialized High Schools as the official tutoring partner of The Brooklyn Technical High School STEM Program, through its partnership with Harlem DreamChasers, and through its SHSAT Program & the Dr. Mansur Khan SHSAT Opportunity Scholarship Program. Due to the success of increasing diversity at the Specialized High Schools, Khan’s Tutorial was recently featured in the New York Post in addition to The Wall Street Journal.

The second Wall Street Journal article follows the journey of several Khan’s Tutorial students who gained acceptance to Stuyvesant High School. Nicole Rodriguez, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic is one of 33 Hispanic students who got into Stuyvesant. Daniel Olton and Samantha Farrow are two of seven black/African American students who go into Stuyvesant. The piece details the disparities at the Specialized High Schools and the challenges working families face in accessing a quality education.
With 11 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Sunnyside, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income, new immigrant neighborhoods. Over 3,357 students have gained admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools through Khan’s Tutorial since its inception in 1994.
