New York, NY – March 5, 2015 – Thursday, March 5, 2015 marked the release of the results of the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT), the sole determinant of admission into New York City’s prestigious Specialized High Schools including Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science, and Brooklyn Technical High School. The original three schools accept a total of 2,500 students per year out of the 30,000 students that take the challenging exam. The SHSAT program at Khan’s Tutorial (KT) is conducted year round with students starting classes 6-12 months before their exam. Over the past 20 years, KT has helped over 1,868 students gain admission to the Specialized High Schools. As of today, a total of 253 students have been accepted for 2015.

The breakdown of KT’s acceptances in terms of scores (thus far) are:

Stuyvesant High School – 76
Bronx High School of Science – 94
Brooklyn Technical High School –  72
Other Specialized High Schools – 11

We are very proud to announce that more than 10% of Bronx Science’s incoming freshman class is from Khan’s Tutorial.  8% of the students from Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech are Khan’s Tutorial students, mostly South-Asian Americans, the fastest growing community in NYC.

Additionally, our student Saimul Hossain had the rare achievement of breaking 700 with a near perfect score of 703.

All accepted students from last year’s program were invited to return to KT with their acceptance letters to celebrate their success and share their stories with future test takers. Students and their families will celebrate their hard work next month at KT’s Annual SHSAT Awards Ceremony.

With 10 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income Bangladeshi-American neighborhoods. Over 1,876 students have gained admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools through Khan’s Tutorial since its inception in 1994.
