New York, NY – May 8, 2024 – Khan’s Tutorial, a leading educational institution in New York City, hosted its 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Career & College Awards on Saturday, May 4th at its Jackson Heights location. This special event celebrated the role of mothers in nurturing educational success and recognized the achievements of graduating students pursuing college and career success.
Now in its second year, this annual event honors mothers who have made significant contributions to their children’s education and recognizes college bound students from Khan’s Tutorial who have achieved academic success and made positive contributions to their communities.
Event Highlights:
- Awards Ceremony: Awards were presented to mothers for their unwavering support and to students for their academic achievements and college acceptances. These recognitions symbolize the deep connection between family support and academic success.
- Inspirational Keynote: A keynote address from Dr. Nurun Yusuf emphasized the critical role mothers play in shaping their children’s futures. Dr. Yusuf’s three children are now professionals in education & medicine, and attended Khan’s.
- Career Mother Guests of Honor: The event featured special guests who are notable for their contributions to education and the community. This year’s guests of honor included Alison Karasz (Co-Founder of Sapna NYC), Dr. Nurun Yusuf, Shima Haque, and Sangeeta Roy, who each brought unique insights and experiences to the event.
- Community Opportunities: The event provided a platform for mothers, students, and community members to network and share opportunities. A research grant also offered mothers a part time job to help improve mental health for mothers.

My three children attended Khan’s Tutorial, Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, & UPenn, and now they are a Principal, a Physician, and in Education Policy. I always encourage all mothers to stay extra involved at all times,” said Dr. Nurun Yusuf during her Keynote Speech.
“My research work to help South Asian Bangladeshi mothers goes back many decades. During my time at SapnaNYC, we worked on many projects to improve the mental health, dietary habits, and depression levels for mothers in the community. I will be returning for my 7th trip to Bangladesh this week to help improve depression in mothers in rural areas of Bangladesh that include Rangpur. May is mental health awareness month, and we want to ensure the best mental health for all Bangladeshi mothers.” said Alison Karasz.
